A love of good books

February 28th, 2007

EDIT: I finished this book in a week!! Couldn’t put it down! On to the next one…

Last night Rob and I were heading off to his parents house for dinner. They live about 20-30 minutes drive from us, so we left about 4.30pm in order to miss the bulk of the traffic.
While in traffic we both receive a text from Rob’s sister saying that they want to leave dinner until the weekend. Rob text her back asking why they didn’t let us know earlier, as we were nearly there. She said they’d text us last night, but for some reason we didn’t get them.
Oh well, no biggy. Rob always trains for cricket on a Tuesday night, after he’s dropped me at his parents, so I then realised I’d be sitting in the car for the two hours while he trained. It’s too far to drive home, you see.
I am getting to the point of my blog…. which is the book I bought to read while waiting for him at cricket training. I had bought one earlier in the day and was annoyed I didn’t bring it with me.
We got to the Warehouse and the first one Rob saw, he pointed to and said “get that one”. At first I was unsure, I’d never heard of the book or the author before. But I read the summary on the back and it sounded quite good. The book I bought was The Butterfly House by Marcia Preston.

The Butterfly House

Because I was sitting there for two hours, I really got into it. I am totally loving this book! I never want to put it down. I’m glad Rob brought it to my attention.
I was late back to work from lunch today as I was so engrossed in it. It’s wonderful to find great books - I love good books!

Check out the book challenge I’m doing and if you can recommend any books, that’d be wonderful!

Another fly-by weekend

February 27th, 2007

On Friday night Rob and I went to visit his family as it was his dad’s birthday on Thursday (22nd). So we took him over some presents and spent time with them.

On Saturday I headed off to the painful retail job and Rob headed off to his cricket game. His team won as usual. After work I rushed home and showered and changed. We were due to be at Rob’s work-do (yes, the new job he just got had a work do, only three weeks after he started - score!) at Sky City at 7.30pm. We were only about 10 minutes late, so no issue. We were feeling a bit weird at first - we only really knew each other!! Remember, THREE weeks! He only knew about six people and there was about 200 hundred there! I didn’t realise the company was so big, but they have branches all over the country. After a few drinks, while eating our meal we started chatting to everyone at our table. There were only two others from Auckland, the rest were from down south.
I even chatted to some girls from another table, who were from Hamilton, because they stole my helium balloons, so one of their boyfriend’s gave me a big bunch of them… which some how started a conversation. Everyone was so lovely and we did lots of dancing on the dance floor - I love dancing.
It was a great night, it’s a shame we wont see those people again until the next company function.

On Sunday Rob had his sixes competition. It lasted just about all day, originally we thought it’d be finished by 1.00pm, but we were still there at 4.00pm!
We were due to be at a BBQ for Brandon & Jess (a wedding reunion type one) at 1.30pm but didn’t make it ’til 4.30pm. There was still heaps of people there and we all got into a volleyball game - lots of fun!
We left there at 9.00pm came home and basically colapsed into bed. I’m pretty sure we were both asleep by 10.00pm.

I didn’t make it to the gym on Monday morning, I found it so hard to get out of bed!!

I had my first day at University today - 8.00am to 2.00pm. I’m so glad to be back! I only have to work three days a week! Woohoo!

Five minute weekend.

February 19th, 2007

..Well it bloody felt like it!! After a long week at work, I was expecting to go home and watch DVDs with Rob, maybe go buy some dinner and basically vege out. That was smashed to peices when I got a phone call from the lady we babysit for at lunchtime. And not being one to pass up $80 for sitting on my ass watching TV. We headed off there after I finished work. The children, now nine, seven and five, were pretty good. They’re angels until you say ‘bedtime!’. But I remember being the same…
Home in bed by 12.30am.

Saturday morning I had to get up and go to the retail job. Nothing much to say about that, it was slow and the day dragged. Thankfully I didn’t get any angry customers, just one idiot I have to work with. He drives me insane. He annoys other people too, so I’m not being unreasonable.
After I finished I called Rob, who had just finished cricket, to see what was happening. We were invited over to some friends for drinks and to celebrate his 23rd birthday. So I headed out to that after changing at home.
After a few drinks the Singstar and Buzz came out which filled up a good few hours. We were home and in bed by 2.30am that night.

Sunday morning we wake up at 9.00am as it’s time for the cricket one day international versus Australia. A bloody hot day, everyone got a bit burnt. I only had one beer, yes my first whole beer to myself. Ever. It was just so refreshing in the heat, wine isn’t as refreshing. Plus I’d drunk a few wines the night before, so that was enough for me.
NZ won with the biggest chase ever recorded at Eden Park - or something similar to that. The main point is we kicked Australia’s ass! We are now winning two nil with the last game to be played tomorrow (Tuesday).
We got home at 8pm, had baked bean and cheese toasted sandwiches (everyone else had already had dinner), started watching Oceans 12 and then decided it was bedtime at 9.30pm.

Woke up this morning at 6am to the alarm, time for the gym. My one thought, where the hell did my weekend go?

Embarrassing moment #102

February 16th, 2007

Sitting in traffic this morning with my windows down, listening to Can’t fight the moonlight by LeAnn Rimes and trying to hit her high notes and adding in that nasal ‘country’ effect.
Only to look to my right and see a construction van with it’s windows down and two late 20’s guys looking at me, about to burst into laughter.
I hope I don’t see them in traffic again!

When I arrived at work Charissa had bought me some juju (that’s what she called it), in the form of a mochachino. So lovely of her! :satisfied: She said it’s because we’ve had a long, hard week at work and we deserve it! I totally agree.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14th, 2007

I really don’t think of Valentine’s as a ’special day’, but I found this funny page on Amazon of Bad Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas, so I had to post about it.

I hope everyone feels loved everyday of the year! ♥

You know I love you Rob ;)

Baby mania: Update

February 12th, 2007

After hearing of Zarrin’s exciting news we made plans to catch up. So on Friday night; myself, Rob, Zarrin and her husband Kim met up for dessert. It was great to catch up with them both and she let me rub her belly! hehehe. She’s definitely showing!
The baby is due 24 June 2007, Yay! Four days after me. :)
Zarrin also said I would have to be an Aunty to the baby, because both her and her husband Kim only have brothers, no sisters. Yay! I’ll be an Aunty!

I’ve got my gym membership and have been twice since Friday night (when I signed up). So far I’m loving it, I just need to get some faster gym music on my iPod. I’ve been going in the mornings as it gets it over and done with and I feel enegerised for the day. I went this morning and I’ve already drank two bottles of water - can’t be bad!

I’m also going to go to a couple of classes with a friend of mine who’s also a member at that gym. Just to keep it exciting, don’t want to get bored and quit!

People are getting confused - I. am. not. pregnant. :)

Baby mania!

February 8th, 2007

This morning a lady I work with who has just had a baby, Rangika, brought her gorgeous little boy in. He’s now six weeks old, born on New Years Eve. He is the cutest little baby! We were all feeling very clucky after holding him, he’s so tiny and soft!!
I text Rob scaring him a bit saying I wanted a baby. Of course I know I’m not really ready, so I was just joking around. I can’t wait though - they’re gorgeous! A lot of work though, so I’m told.

About 45 minutes later I receive a text message from my friend Zarrin, who got married in April last year, to tell me she’s expecting a baby!! I have to admit it was a shock but I’m very happy for her! She’s already a few months along, so being a small girl, I’m sure she’s showing!

It’s quite spooky, it’s been a bit of a baby day. I’ll be spooked if someone else tells me they’re expecting!

You know what’s scarier? I forgot my pill this morning. I never forget it… just today!

….Don’t worry Rob, I’ll take it as soon as I get home. :P
